Affordable Long Distance Within Canada and US

Calling your friends and or customers outside your area can be very expensive.  The majority of the phone campanies charges between $15.00 to $29.99 per month for unlimited long distance within Canada and the US.

I was looking to drastically reduce my phone bills when I came accross skype.  I was already using skype for their free computer to computer VOIP service but I never thought of their other services.  I didn’t know I could use it to call people without computers.

Their Unlimited US & Canada calling subscription is - $2.95/month. This plan allows you to make unlimited call to any land line and cell phone number anywhere in Canada and the US. I called my mother-in-law in Sudbury to test it and it worked - very clear and she didn’t notice any difference.  The only thing was, she didn’t see my number appear on her call display.  That’s a small draw back using this service, but for the price - i’d take it anaytime.

It’s very easy to use once you sign up. 

Requirements: 

You do need to have a speaker.  So if you don’t have a speaker built into your computer, buy a portable one.  I prefer a headset so my hands are free when I am talking as I am usually working online. Any inexpensive headset can work but I use this logitech one and I love it.

FREE Business Conference Call

When you sign up for the above plan, you can use FREE conference call feature.  Again, it’s very easy to use, no set up is required.  Click on the BUSINESS button and watch a short video on how easy this tool is.  I am totally amaze how easy it is.  I don’t have to fiddle with anything.

To start using the conference call feature, just click on the "conference" tab, choose the people on your contact list (assuming you added them on your contact list prior) and then press the START button! Can’t get any simplier than that. 

Of course, all conference participants must be in Canada or the US.

Video conference is also an option with this plan.  If you have questions, there’s a forum you can use.
